                                                                                                                                                            Railey:in August 1914 Maori chiefs were brought to the marea and were talking about a war that might happen, but during their talk, a man named Tipu stood up and said “This isn't our war it belongs to the british and so let them fight”.
Davlyn: 1914 the british and the Maoris were having a big war in front of
  the meating house. Then one of  the warriors stood up and said “this war
is not our war it is the british so let them fight.” 
Senitila: August 16 in 1914 all the chiefs had joined together at the marae
to see if they were going to war.
Eh Htoo:  This story is about world war one there was an argument about
going to war some people said that it was Britain's war and should not fight.    
Saia: In 1914, 16 of August many of the chiefs gathered
around the marae atea trying to decide if they should go to
war or not.

 Out of the 600 conscientious objectors, 286 of them went to jail then 14 of those got sent to war. 10
eventually agreed to help as stretch bearers, and the other 4 got a field punishment. They  were hanging from their shoulders  which caused extreme pain. After this 3 agreed to help.   1. Who is Archibald, and why is his name famous now (100 years after this happened..) 
Hope - Archibald is a man that was a part of the pacifist, socialist and conscientious objectors. 
He also refused to put on his uniform and join the war. He was punished by getting hanged up on a pole and he got beaten up. 
Davlyn-Archibald is one of the 14, Archibald was punished by getting hanged on a pole and beating up he was one of the four that refused for the longest.
Stanley- Archibald is a european farmer who refused to join the war. So he got forced to join the war, but he still refused to join. So he was punished by being hanged by the hands, and he still refused so he got sent home injured.
Senitila- Archildbald is a european farmer. He refused to fight so he got hung up on a long pole then
whe got severly hurt and got sent back to his house. After the fight it had happen for a while he was the only one that got hurt the most when the war was over.

Pandemic Page 29



Senitila- In the last month of the year in the 1918 the pandemic
was finally over. But there were many deaths. A few months later the death
toll has moved to nine thousands, In New Zealand there is a new Virus
called Covid -19 which stands for Coronavirus it started in december
2019 that is why its called Covid19 cause it started in 2019. It is a big
Virus in New Zealand. There are 16 deaths and 1,112 cases.


NZ’s killed by the Flu :9.000 Over a  4 year period.
NZ’s killed in WW1: 1800  Over a 2 month  period.

Why is the 1918 flu known as Spanish Flu? 
A lot of people died in Spain because of the flu.

Why did some people think the 1918 flu was a return of the plague?
It  had similar looking symptoms - affected the lungs, skin changed colour

What medical knowledge was learnt from the 1918 flu?
the importance of isolation that breathing in zinc sulphate doesn't do anything  
For everyday  Europeans that died of the flu in NZ, __and___ Maori died.
This was because of the flu it made huge deaths because it spreaded fast from
people to people.

Is it true that RMS Niagara brought the flu to NZ? Yes How do you know? 
Because the soldiers had the flu from the war and other times and
when they went around the world they kept giving the flu to other countries
but there were already some cases in NZ before the RMS came.

Why was this virus so deadly? 
It was a mutated strain people didn't know how to fight it/kill it

What limitations did people living in 1918 have during this crisis?
(hint: think about what would have made it hard for them to survive this time,
things they didn’t have then that we have now). What we have now which is tv,
phones, wifi, and stuff is the stuff they did not have 

Why is November 1918 known as ‘black November’ in NZ?
Number of people that died and also when your skin changed colour.

Unknown Island Writing






One Magnificent morning lily and harmony decided to go on a trip to Pig island as lily and harmony got ready in their gear. Lily had forgotten to put the gas in the tank "this should be enough gas to get to pig island" said Lily. 

As soon as we left the plane started to make squeaky noises they thought it was just a little plaything. So they left. Suddenly harmony fell asleep halfway there. Lily hears the engine turning off “ oh no harmony get up the plane is about to crash!” Lily shouted. They put on parachutes and jumped out and the plane crashed. Lily and Harmony had no idea where they were. Lily and harmony freaked out Harmony had forgotten the satellite phone and the flare gun.

Suddenly it had lasted 5  days on that unknown island with no food or drinks to have. " This is my fault if I should have put the gas in" Lily sobbed. " Hey it's alright everybody makes mistakes we just got to make a plan to get off this creepy island" Harmony declared. As they slept through the night, Harmony had nightmares. She woke up with a big shock. She woke up Lily and said to her that she had a plan to get them out of that island and they decided to wait for the next morning.

When Lily woke up they ran straight to the water and grabbed some seaweed and rocks Harmony has said: " Lets right help with the seaweed" "Sure let's do it" Lily said. that night they had fallen asleep and woke up with a big flashing light upon their faces. They woke up. It was a helicopter they waived and waved and a ladder came down. We climbed up and were rescued; they were so relieved to get out of that unknown island.

As soon as they got back they both went to Harmony's house. They had a cup of milo and ate a lot of food. Later harmony went for a bath and suddenly Lily was sleeping in the lounge plus after that Harmony finished her bath and went for a nap.
